I’ll remember it all…

Benji Galloway Cinco De Margo 2013This weekend was so much fun that we forgot to take any photos or video of our trip out to Port Angeles to skate the really fun skatepark there. It was a super beautiful day and three of us set out to go and skate for the day. For the first part of our day involved an early start to catch the ferry at Edmonds and once we got to the park and some leg stretching Mikhel, Ritchie and myself had a blast skating the park mostly buy ourselves. That park is so very fun that we mostly skated with hardly a break from morning into the afternoon. Skating with friends one of the best things ever.

We then drove to Bainbridge Island to skate the park there and got to skate and hang out with our Oh My Back originator and good friend Andy Caro who hadn’t been skating for months with, of all things, a bad back. It was great to see him skate and we had a good time there. Especially after the shade covered the deep end and our northwestern sun shy selves really started to enjoy ourselves. Burritos and beers to follow and that was our Saturday.

Sunday was Cinco De Margo day which has become an annual event at the Marginal Way Skatepark with tacos, beer, skating and music. It was great to have most of the Oh My Back crew in attendance and skate and witness the absolute ripping going on. It was a great turnout with some surprising out of town visitors as well.

It was an awesome weekend and it was fun to get out and skate with all of our friends. Next time we go on a trip we will try and remember to take a break and snap some photos and do some video gathering. Skating is too much fun sometimes.

Go Skate!!

Springtime!

Finally things are looking a lot like skate time! Not that every time isn’t skate time but around Seattle and the Pacific Northwest in general it can be pretty dark and wet and though this year we have a few more undercover options we still have a log of cool skateparks to enjoy. A good sunny skate day at Southpark!

We have had ourselves a pretty good time keeping up with what’s happening around the area. Marginal Way had some fund raisers lately which were pretty successful and we were able to donate 300 bucks so far from Poster sales which is pretty sweet.

We’ve got a couple skate pals who are down but not out with knee injuries and even a lacerated kidney. We wish speedy recoveries and we can’t wait to skate with them again.

We are also working on some new shirts, hoodies and other crap for your grubby little mitts to get your hands on at hopefully more places in the Seattle area and of course, as always, on line. Oh My Kidney!

So here’s to longer sunnier days of skating and some road trips to places we haven’t skated yet. We hope to see you out there working on expanding you bag of tricks, having a good time and keeping the bill collectors at the pain bank at bay.

Thanks for playing! Now go skate!!

Eric Dressen gets Epicly Later’d

Normally we don’t put other sites videos up here (sometimes we Facebook them) but after watching all five Epicly Later’d Eric Dressen episodes I have to say that they really were excellent. It might have something to do with the fact that I’m the same age as Eric and skated the first time in the 70’s on the skateboards of that era but this profile spoke to me in very profound ways.

“It’s somthing else if you fall in love with it before you get good. I don’t know any guys that skated in the 70’s that don’t constantly think about it.” – Lance Mountain

Someone who doesn’t skate would ever say anything about skateboarding is profound. But from the moment I started skating and for the rest of my life it has always been something more than just an activity and has affected the way I look at everything. The older I get the more apparent this becomes and if all I can do in my old age is go back to where I started and roll around the garage it will be enough because I will be skating. Watching these episodes made me really think about that.

He came from that OG, you know, I’m standing on a fucking 3 inch wide piece of oak trying to figure out how to turn and come back down the wall. That’s fucking profound…

The dude’s skateboarding royalty. – Jeff Grosso

Watching this also put getting a tattoo from Eric Dressen on my bucket list.

The scene at the end at Arto’s bowl is exactly what my skateboard dream house would be like. A backyard skate spot to skate with friends.

So here’s to you Eric Dressen! And thanks to Epicly Later’d for such a great profile.

I’m just a skateboarder…

I just fell in love with skateboarding. – Eric Dressen
